Fantasy Attractor
Welcome to the official site of the attractor framework.
Systems that survive disturbances — from particles to beliefs — share common dynamics.
“When a system is perturbed, its stability is a function of how much entropy it can export to the environment—how effectively it can dissipate the disorder introduced by the perturbation.
~If you can export enough entropy, you persist.
~If you can match the perturbation, you transform.
~If you cannot, you dissolve.”
~Robert Galida
The Eternal Skeleton
No electron has ever been observed to decay. Protons appear stable on timescales vastly exceeding the age of the universe. Neutrino mass states likewise show no observed decay.
Physicists have built massive detectors, waited years, and searched for even a single sign of decay. They have found none.
These particles — the three metronomes — are not just stable. They are effectively eternal skeletons on any observable timescale. They don’t age, don’t consume energy, don’t have a mind. They simply persist. (Why “metronomes”? Because their invariant quantum frequencies provide a steady tick – a universal clock against which all change can be measured.)
They are the floor of the framework: the conservative, non-dissipative foundation upon which everything else is built.
The Transient Dance
The other half of reality? Everything that does decay, needs energy, and eventually dies. Life, mind, society, belief systems — all are dissipative systems that maintain their structure through continuous reconfiguration, generating entropy as the cost of persistence.
They are the middle of the framework: the transient dance of dissipative systems, exchanging energy and entropy to maintain their attractors.
The Roof
The universe as a whole is like the metronomes. It has no external environment with which to exchange energy or entropy. It is a conservative system at the largest scale — the roof of the framework.
The Framework
The framework begins with the floor and ends with the roof. In between lies the transient dance of dissipative systems.
| Level | System | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Roof | The universe | Conservative |
| Middle | Dissipative systems | Dynamic |
| Floor | The metronomes | Conservative |
This provides a common language for comparing systems that appear unrelated:
- Why some beliefs never change (fantasy attractors – sealed basins)
- Why consciousness is neither ghost nor machine (it’s a real pattern of the transient dance)
- Why interventions fail (clockwork thinking in complex attractor landscapes)
- Why time exists (it emerges from dissipation)
The Formal Foundation
The framework is built on a single foundational object:
DT(x) = ∫₀ᵀ δ(φₜ(x)) dt
From this, we derive:
κ = inf_x δ(x) / D∞(x)
and identify entropy production as the cost of persistence:
σ_excess = σ − σ_ss
The core prediction of the framework is:
κ ∝ 1/D∞
This prediction can be tested across physical, biological, cognitive, and social systems.
The Core Papers
The framework is now formalized in a series of foundational papers:
📄 The Persistence Functional: A Candidate Formal Foundation for the Attractor Framework — Defines the foundational object DT and its properties.
📄 Deriving Corrective Permeability from the Cumulative Deviation Functional — Derives κ = inf δ / D∞ and proves linear consistency.
📄 Excess Entropy Production as a Candidate Universal Cost of Persistence — Identifies entropy production as the cost of persistence.
📄 The Attractor Framework in Astrophysics — Extends the framework to cosmology.
